And away we go...

Taking Gideon on his first plane ride has filled Mac and I both with so much anxiety that it was difficult to focus on the reason why we were getting on the plane in the first place.  Our anxiety was really all for nothing because Gideon is awesome (duh).  The airline was less then awesome when they told us (as we were standing in a cramped airplane aisle with a baby and a giant carseat) that our particular seats were too close to the exit row to use a carseat.   They actually offered to check the seat like I was going to be all "sure, yeah, a lap belt is PLENTY of protection of my 17 month old.  He's just my whole world and stuff but I have no problem being cavalier about his safety."  Nope.  Luckily a wonderful woman and her sweet daughters traded seats with us.  What steams me the most about this (besides the offer to go sans safety seat) is A. I picked those seats myself online and they were no where near the exit row so their online map must be wrong and B. that the airline knew we were traveling with a baby and carseat and must have known on some level that or chosen seats wouldn't accommodate us and yet let us walk on the plane and piss people off anyway.  Fortunately those few aggravated minutes were really the only low point of a trip filled with high points.  The child babbled and ate and played and was generally charming and a pleasure to be around for all (except for the girl in front of him who got to feel his feet in her back every 10 seconds...so sorry!).  And in true Gideon fashion he waited until our decent to fall fast asleep.
We're going where?!?
Ready to go!
It's early...

Finally settled into his seat

Happy Father's Day

Shocking isn't it?

We were so excited about father's day this year.  We designed a blanket for daddy to use when he naps on the couch (a favorite daddy pastime) with pictures of Giddy and Daddy all over it, a mug for work with the family as cartoons, and a book of pictures of Gideon that illustrate a poem I wrote.  After a breakfast of bagels and donuts, we napped and then went to Ikea for lunch and shopping.  Afterwards we all lazed around like professionally lazy people.  Not a bad day.

Playing Catch?

Technically he threw it to me and then I gave it back. That's catch right?

Splashing is the best

Gideon has decided splashing is the best which makes me very happy because I agree with him. Thank god for splash parks because our bathroom is starting to show signs of water damage thanks to his splashtastic bath times.

Emily showed us our first splash pad and Gideon really loved being able to play with his friends (Lyla, Flint, Haydrienne, Violet, and Aidan were ALL THERE. It was AWESOME) and running over to the play ground to cover his damp body in mulch and dirt.

Melissa told us about the splash park near our house and one day on a whim I decided to check it out. I didn't even shave my legs which was slightly embarassing since it was highly populated with outgoing moms. Lesson learned.

Last week we went back to our splash park with Auntie Bethany and cousin Liyah. Liyah is still figuring this whole water thing out but I think a good time was had by all.

I predict a very wet summer.

Edwards Family Reunion

Drove down to Grandbury and met up with these folks and then met other folks who were also Edwardseseses.

We are obviously all related (okay maybe not technically...).

Goose Attack

Gideon and I met Aunt Bethany, Cousin Liyah, Michelle, Aidan, and Violet at the Boys Ranch for a picnic and play time.

Gideon is a very suspicious picnicker

I thought it would be great fun to bring bread and feed the ducks. Who knew we would be swarmed by giant Canadian geese?

Afterwards Aidan laid at the bottom of a slide and let the little ones slide down onto him.  They all thought it was pretty great.

We will definitely have to visit this park again...perhaps after the geese migrate?

Swimming at Grandma's

We went swimming for the first time this year at Gramma's neighborhood pool.  Last summer Gideon loved floating around in Sally's pool so I picked up a floaty for him last time I was at the store.  He thought that was alright.

Later we discovered that the baby pool was shallow enough that Giddy could walk around on his own.  From that moment on it was ON!

He was tough to catch up to!

Cousin Liyah seemed to enjoy her first EVER pool experience, and snuggling with her mama in a towel afterward.
