8 months old

Two days after the birth of Miss Maliyah, Gideon turned 8 months old. Seeing the two of them next to each other blew my mind. How can he have ever been that small and when did he get so big? I couldn't help but think back to Gideon's birth and those first few weeks with a newborn. There were some very seriously rocky moments but it was all worth it. I am finally to a point where I can look back and see the high points as well as the low points. Hopefully someday the bad parts will fade, but even if they don't it will be okay because we have this little guy. Here is our Giddy Boo on his 8 month birthday.

So what is he up to these days? He loves to eat and has tried green beans, peas, bananas, apples, pears, carrots, parsnips, plums, nectarines, avocado, peaches, butternut squash, acorn squash, and sweet potatoes and he seems to love them all. He eats puffs and drinks from his sippy cup but he does neither without help. He doesn't crawl but he can roll anywhere he pleases. He is extremely chatty, to the point that I hardly even notice when he is babbling anymore, because somedays it is nonstop. He loves to swing. He is biter, you have to be careful (I have not been and have some bruises on my shoulders because of it). He has 4 teeth and is working on many more. He wears 9 and 12 month clothes and is all around a giant. Best of all he loves to snuggle with blankies and stuffed animals and mommy.

I feel like there is much, much, more but really no child can be summed up in a paragraph. Long story short he is the best and I think we will keep him!

Welcome Liyah!

Welcome to the world Clara Maliyah Hope Adams! I am so excited for Gideon to grow up with his new little cousin. I am sure they will be good friends, just like their moms!

Riding the car

Sometimes when Gideon likes something he looks concerned or thoughtful. I know that he likes it because he wants to do it over and over again (like riding his car) but the experience makes him... ponderous.

September

September has been all about playing and getting more mobile. It is so wonderful to have a baby that is now old enough to interact, this kid cracks me up. He isn't crawling but he has started rolling to his desired locations and it is interesting to watch.

Here he is showing off his new skills

All of his toys have found a renewed fascination lately. Toys that he has had for months are getting a closer inspection with eyes, hands, and mouth. His favorite toys, of course, are still mom and dad.

Headcase

Gideon has had a flat spot on his head for some time now so Mac and I took him downtown to get his head evaluated to determine whether or not he would need a helmet. Luckily he does not (the problem is getting better without intervention) and the process of evaluation was REALLY COOL.

Video Roundup

Time has been running like our cat from children.

August has been a good month for Giddy and he has continued to be a generally happy but thoughtful baby. Oh and he is lazy, very lazy. There are things that he can do, such as rolling in any direction, that he simply chooses not to do. I really don't mind too much, I will be chasing him down and baby proofing the house soon enough.

There are other things that he loves to do and does very well, such as playing in his baby pool and the big pool, reaching and grabbing pretty much anything (he is perfecting that pincher grasp on the dog and my cell phone whenever possible), and adding to his babble repertoire. Not only does he say dadadada but also mamamama when he is uncomfortable (or simply a shout of MA! when he doesn't know where I have gone), bababa for fun, and a plethora of vowel sounds. Shrieking is also a favorite. He will happily shriek for hours...and hours...and hours (okay maybe not hours but it feels like a long time). Dinner time is also a big hit around here. So far he has tried bananas, plums, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, avocado, nectarines (a favorite), prunes, and carrots. We are trying to introduce a wide variety of foods in hopes that he will not be a picky eater later on. Tomorrow night I will be hitting Sprouts to get more goodies for my food processor.

The easiest way to tell you about Mister Gideon is to show you.

Here he is trying out crayons for the first time.

And here are those lovely shrieks I was telling you about

He really cracks me up with his love of mirrors, and of getting really close to them.

And in my opinion this is the best of all, Gideon getting the giggles
